On Monday the first episode of Season 12 of Dancing with the Stars began. This season premiere had many surprising performances and some not so surprising performances. It was a great season premiere and as of now it’s nice to know who won’t be a shoe in to win unlike previous seasons. (Season 11, Jennifer Grey) Each dancer will have another chance to redeem themselves before they are booted off the show on Tuesday, March 29th on the Results show. So, here is the dancing recap.
Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff: The Karate Kid star is at the top of the leaderboard with a 24 out of 30 points. Macchio was one of the biggest surprises of the night when he danced his foxtrot with such flair and elegance. In the video they presented, the 49 year old was complaining about the physical demands of dancing. Last season Jennifer Grey proved complaints can get real old real fast so I hope he doesn’t continue in that path but he will definitely be on the show for the long run.
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: I really hope I wasn’t the only person thrilled to see the larger than life actress come out and rock her cha cha, scoring 23 points. The dance left her out of breath which is a sign for future dances. Will she be able to hold up? Well I sure hope so. Go Kirstie!!
Hines Ward and Kym Johnson: Once the Steelers wide receiver starts shaking his hips he’ll be a dancer to look out for. Good thing for him he has a partner that makes him look good. His cha cha routine left him with 21 points.
Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas: The Disney star began the show with such a fun foxtrot routine leaving her with 21 points. All of the Disney kids make it far in the competition, but will the only star in the cast with the most dancing talent make it all the way? I think so.
Romeo and Chelsie Hightower: All the young rapper seemed to want to do last night was dance to the beat of his own drum instead of following the routine. The judges saw potential but I don’t believe he’ll make it very far in the competition. His cha cha left him with 19 points.
Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke: Poor WWE wrestler Chris Jericho, Burke is out there rocking the cha cha but Jericho has no idea what to do. But I can’t say anything bad about him because while he was dancing he had the biggest smile on his face and was truly having fun despite having no rhythm. His routine was given 19 points.
Kendra Wilkinson and Louis Van Amstel: An 18? Really? The reality star proved she can dance. So what gives with the low score? She does need to clean up her dancing a little bit and remember she’s ballroom dancing but she had more rhythm and flair than Jericho and Romeo. But she’s a star to look out for as long as her loyal fans keep her in the competition. Her cha cha left her with 18 points.
Petra Nemcova and Dimitry Chaplin: The supermodel proved she is an elegant dancer but with her physical condition she might have issues with the faster routines and with being more flexible on the dance floor. I don’t know how far she will make it but her foxtrot left her with 18 points.
Sugar Ray Leonard and Anna Trebunskaya: The boxing legend thought ballroom dancing would be a walk in the park for him but turns out he’s going to need to lay off that punching bag and work at moving those hips. He danced great when he was alone but when he was in hold with his partner, he was as stiff as a rock. He finished with 18 points after performing his foxtrot.
Wendy Williams and Tony Dovolani: Well, at least she attracted some male viewers. But I don’t see the talk show host lasting very long. She’ll either be out the first results show or the second. Williams’s cha cha landed her at the bottom of the leaderboard with 14 points.
Mike Catherwood and Lacey Schwimmer: The Radio DJ doesn’t have a prayer in this competition. He has a great sense of humor but was just so bad. His foxtrot routine got 13 points landing him in last place.
I really enjoy the mix of celebrities this season and also that we don’t know who will win. Last season, we all knew that Jennifer Grey would win and it took all the enjoyment out of watching the show. I guess America still felt that Baby shouldn’t be put in the corner but on a pedestal. Each star except for 3 or 4 has the potential to make it all the way to the finale. But the viewer’s votes will get them there. So be sure to vote and keep your favorites in. Watch Dancing with the Stars Monday nights on ABC.
My predictions on who will make it to the finale are Kirstie Alley, Ralph Macchio and Chelsea Kane. Kendra Wilkinson is my alternate.
What do you think?
