As the Oscar Predictions are being updated this weekend, I thought an updated Golden Globe Prediction would be in order. Even though I thoroughly believe The Artist will be a huge Oscar player, the Golden Globes haven’t chosen the Oscar winner in the past few years.  With that said, HFPA will likely go with something like War Horse or J. Edgar. They’ve gone with either consensus or just plain ole’ doing their own thing (The Social Network, Atonement, Babel, The Aviator). Include your own predictions in the comment section or discuss on the FORUM.

  1. I’m having a rough time with the Globes this year…maybe that’s a good thing.

  2. You don’t think Drive, Tinker tailor soldier spy or Take Shelter can get nominated for best original score?

    • Clayton doesn’t seem to at the moment, but I have some hopes for Drive in the category…

    • It depends. Globes usually make very unconventional and unpopular choices like Renee Zellweger for Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Any movie has a shot.

  3. And THAT is precisely why the Globes do not matter — because any film has a shot if they bribe the members or treat them right…..

  4. I have always enjoyed The Golden Globes… I think it’s a lot to say that they don’t matter because they do get it right sometimes.

  5. Man, Chastain looks great in yellow.

I don’t take the Globes seriously but I always find them the most enjoyable awards to watch. And as Anna said, they do often make the right choices.

    • Especially with Ricky Gervais hosting these past 2 years they are so much more fun.

  6. The Help as drama? You sure that wouldn’t be comedy? It’s possible, I’m about 50/50 on it

    • I’m pretty sure a movie about racism wouldn’t be considered Comedy. I wouldn’t be surprised though if they made that mistake though.

  7. Sure Anna, they get it right sometimes…so does the Academy, the LA Film Critics, and NY Film Critics — inside the industry the Globes are quietly regarded as a joke but the actors and directors show up because they know there is a TV audience there and Academy voters are watching — never forget this organization gave Best Picture to Scent of a Woman…to name one….it’s a fun show to watch because the actors drink and get loaded….but do they really matter??

  8. Well I think any award show matters. But I guess we’ll have to disagree on Scent of a Woman because I felt it was deserving of Best Picture.
