Rachel Crow delivers the best performance of the competition thus far.
Tonight, The X Factor Top 11 took the stage for America’s votes. It was Movie Week with the contestants choosing any song featured in a film from history.
Stacy Francis – “Queen of the Night” by Whitney Houston from The Bodyguard (**)
-Stacy takes the stage in a terrible red dress and her hair blown out which shows her massive forehead. Wow. That’s harsh but it’s true. She’s trying very hard to be young and sexy but she needs to stay with ballads and soulful numbers. I think Stacy is in serious trouble tonight.
Marcus Canty – “I’m Going Down” by Mary J. Blige from Car Wash – (***)
-Marcus pulls out the big guns with a soulful and terrific rendition of the popular Mary J. Blige number. He can riff amazingly but sometimes I do wish he’d pull back the stage antics a bit. Boy can sing. By the way, that ugly jacket Marcus? Don’t do it again. Thanks.
Drew – “Fix You” by Coldplay from You, Me, and Dupree – (***)
-Drew tackled a very beautiful Coldplay song and puts her own nuances on it wonderfully. I’m still calling her the frontrunner in the competition. Her little multi-colored dress was cute as a button. Paula insulted it. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Neither does L.A. Reid.
LeRoy Bell – “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” by U2 from Runaway Bride – (**½)
-LeRoy is ten times better then he was last week. I still don’t think LeRoy has nailed it yet. There’s something that lacks in his performances. Maybe it’s incoherent judge that picks stupid song choices. Maybe it’s just age. At 60, can you teach an old dog new tricks? We’ll see.
Can Lakoda Rayne find their voices?
Lakoda Rayne – “Somebody like You” by Keith Urban from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – (**)
-Lakoda looks the part. They actually sound the part. They (and by they I probably mean Paula Abdul, mentor) are choosing terrible songs. I think there is a place for a country all-girl group in the music world. This performance fell flat because it was a boring song choice. They may be in danger tonight.
Astro – “Lose Yourself” by Eminem from 8 Mile – (***)
-Astro is a talented kid. Arrogant but talented. His rhymes are sick and he actually has massive potential to become seriously good as a rapper. I still don’t believe America will fully embrace him in this competition. Eventually, big voices always outshine. Tonight was his best performance to date.
Melanie Amaro – “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson from This Is It – (**½)
-Melanie is gorgeous and is very talented. I did not like the song choice this week. It didn’t fit and I think it did more bad then good. It showed some flaws in her vocal arrangement. I think she’ll need to reset next week and do something AMAZING.
The Stereo Hogzz – “Ain’t No Other Man” by Christina Aguilera from Get Smart – (**)
-This groups lacks identity. They perform their asses off but they get boring really quickly as you’re watching them. I was surprised last week to see them in the Bottom Two. This week, they may be in trouble again.
Josh Krajcik – “With a Little Help from my Friends” by Joe Cocker from Across the Universe – (**)
-This was Josh’s worst performance to date. Backup vocals are far too loud and overbear him. I think Josh is losing and/or lacking a connection to the audience. It’s like he’s in his own world and won’t let us in. Judges loved it. We were watching two separate performances.
Is Chris Rene in trouble?
Chris Rene – “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio from Dangerous Minds – (**)
-Chris is becoming a huge disappointment. Is raps were terrible, his vocals were pitchy and off throughout. I don’t know why the judges praised him but I suspect Chris to be in some serious trouble. I don’t think they’ll let him go home but he needs an eye opener.
Rachel Crow – “I’d Rather Go Blind” by Etta James – (***½)
-Rachel gets “pimp” spot and lays it all down. She has achieved the single best performance of the competition thus far. Simon Cowell showed us today that Rachel can really sing and can become the next great artist for the next generation. Can’t wait to see her capitalize on this. It’s beautiful, she’s got attitude. Simply marvelous.

I’m not watching The X Factor, but wow Ain’t No Other Man is a movie song? I’m pretty sure I heard that song two years prior to the release of Get Smart.
They didn’t have to do “original songs” made for movies, just songs from movie soundtracks.
Clayton, I watch X-Factor against this week. I thought Chris Rene (who you know I really like) was downright horrible and I have no idea why the judges praised him. Astro is a very talented rapper and lyricist but I thought this performance was lacking something compared to last week’s. Also, he is totally unable to actually sing (he actually stops halfway through the chorus) which is the difference between him and successful rappers like Eminem, Kanye, Drake, Jay-Z, etc. Rachel totally blew me away. Her first two or three words of her performance were absolutely amazing and I couldn’t believe that mature voice was coming out of such a young girl. I disagree with you on Melanie and Josh, who I thought gave the second and fourth best performances on the night, respectively. Josh started really slow (like last week) but finished great. Melanie has arguably the best voice on the show and I didn’t have a problem with the song choice at all. Stacy has a great voice, too, but that was an absolutely horrible song choice on Nicole’s part and a horrible hair and wardrobe choice as well. Of all the songs to choose from The Bodyguard, I thought it was a huge mistake not to choose “I Will Always Love You” to best utilize her “big voice.” Without completely analyzing every single contestant, this is how I would order their performances tonight:

2. Melanie Amaro
3. Drew
4. Josh Krajcik
5. Marcus Canty
6. Stereo Hogzz
7. LeRoy Bell
8. Stacy Francis
9. Lakoda Rayne
10. Astro
11. Chris Rene
That being said, I think the last two will be Chris Rene and Stacy Francis, but I wouldn’t be surprised if either LeRoy Bell or Lakoda Rayne are in there as well.
