- The events of the previous week – as far as the Oscar season goes – were, shall we say, a complete and utter shitstorm. Obviously the Ratner fiasco was the biggest thing on every Oscar-watcher’s mind for the past few days, but we at The Awards Circuit had plenty of other content for y’all despite that, such as:
- Ecstatic and not-so-ecstatic reviews of The Artist and The Son of No One, respectively.
- Michael Ward and John H. Foote gave us their very opposing takes on J. Edgar…it appears that our readers lean on the “anti” side of that debate at the moment.
- In stark contrast to Joey Magidson, I found Melancholia mesmerizing.
- Mike reported on my stunningly wrong box office predictions last week with the victory of Puss in Boots.
- Hopefully my newest weekend box office predictions (with some thoughts on the prospects of a few Oscar hopefuls) end up a little more on the ball…
- John wrote a career love letter to Clint Eastwood and counted down his favorite performances in the renowned director’s filmography.
- Speaking of top tens, I ran down a list of several notable historical figures that would be perfect for their own biopic.
- Joey pissed off every Harry Potter devotee on the site with his latest DVD Picks of the Week.
- Anna Belickis correctly predicted the ousting of Nancy “guilty until proven innocent” Grace from Dancing with the Stars.
- Anna recapped the Country Music Awards and called shenanigans on Blake Shelton losing Entertainer of the Year.
- Joey expressed his hope that Colin Farrell will continue to give In Bruges-caliber performances in the future.
- His London Boulevard co-star Keira Knightley was also profiled in Anna’s Women in Cinema.
- Clayton Davis recapped The X-Factor performances with a theme particularly suited for our site.
- Before the announcement of Billy Crystal, Joey had his own ideas for possible replacement Oscar hosts.
- The Help submitted to the HFPA as a “Comedy?” WTF?!
- Finally, Academy Idol kicks off today! This is arguably The Awards Circuit’s biggest event (besides the Oscars themselves, of course), so be sure to check in every week and get out the vote! In the meantime, let us know what your thoughts are on this year’s contest.
