Will "War Horse" make the cut?

Golden Globes are about to announce their nominations on Thursday morning with the Screen Actors Guild naming their best in year 2011 on Wednesday.  It’s going to be a hum-dinger.  What can they present that won’t make them look like star-chasing, parasites who don’t care about the quality but instead looking like they throw a big party.  It is a great show to watch but they have struggled the past few years in choosing quality, eclectic choices.  I don’t expect it to change.  Below are the predictions, perhaps not final for this year’s Golden Globes.  Include yours in the comment section and in the forum.

  1. Don’t you think the Globes love for more popular films would result for best picture drama nod for The Help

Also 50/50 for best screenplay is messing, I Hope Gordon Levitt is winning best actor comedy

  2. I absolutely agree about The Help. The Great Debaters, another racially-themed film, snuck in a few years ago and it didn’t have the box office or critical acclaim. And it wasn’t nearly as good.
I’d be very surprised if it didn’t get a nod.

Also, I think the Oscar nod for 50/50 is possible, but not in a field of 5 at the Globes.

  3. I think we’ll see more ridiculous nominations this year like Cameron Diaz for Bad Teacher, Tom Hanks for Larry Crowne, Mila Kunis or Justin Timberlake for Friends with Benefits, or one of the performances from Horrible Bosses. I also think Crazy, Stupid, Love. could be a fairly big player as well. It’s star studded, got good reviews (not that that’s ever mattered) and is the type of movie they seem to go for at least once every year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Steve Carrell, Julianne Moore, and/or even Ryan Gosling get nominated, along with possibly a Best Comedy nomination as well. Honestly, I’d be fine if it got in over lesser movies like Larry Crowne, Friends with Benefits, Horrible Bosses, The Rum Diary, etc…

  4. Haha, Larry Crowne was probably the worst movie I saw this year…yet I agree that it will probably get some nods….Oh the globes….

    • Ya it was REALLY bad. I wasn’t a fan of Horrible Bosses or Bad Teacher either though and a fair number of people liked both quite a bit.

  5. I am not sure “The Artist” qualified for the Drama category, a lot of people are saying how it will win Comedy/Musical.

    • Yeah. If it gets nominated for Comedy/Musical instead of Drama, we’ll already know the winner of that category.

  6. The Golden Globes announced The Tourist as a possible Best Comedy/Musical winner last year. I will never, ever ever ever in my lifetime, even consider the Golden Globes as a precursor for the Oscars again. What a fucking shame.

  7. I really think Moneyball will get nominated but I’m struggling to move anyone out from your five. Perhaps The Artist will go Comedy/Musical?

Everything else looks solid except I’d probably have Mara in over Swinton and I think one of Fassbender and Gosling (or even both) will be nominated.

  8. Some say “My Week With Marilyn” will compete in the Musical/Comedy category… Anyone hear about that?

  9. Actually isn’t The Artist in the comedy/musical line-up? Same with My Week With Marilyn? Which is ridiculous of course.

  10. “My Week With Marilyn” and “The Artist” both are running for Comedy/Musical. They both qualified. The first for its musical scenes and elements and the latter for its obvious musical inclination.
