Los Angeles will be announcing their winners for year 2011 in just under 12 to 15 hours or so. This will complete the “tri-fecta” that is the LAFCA, New York Film Critics, and the National Board of Review. Hopefully we’ll have some cool, out-of-the-box choices tomorrow but one can dream. Once again it all looks pretty good, but like you I’m really hoping for some surprises to shake up what already is a pretty unpredictable awards season.
Adepero Oduye for “Pariah”? Now THAT would be fun to see!
My predix:
Best Picture: The Descendants;
Runner-up: The Tree of Life.
Best Director: Terrence Malick;
Runner up: Alexander Payne;
Best Actor: George Clooney;
Runner-up: Ryan Gosling.
Best Actress: Michelle Williams;
Runner-up: Viola Davis.
Best Supporting Actor: Cristopher Plummer;
Runner-up: Albert Brooks.
Best Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer;
Runner-up: Vanessa Redgrave.
If the Best Actor goes somewhat like Clayton’s predictions (is Thomas Horn really that good in ELAIC?), is it safe to assume that Gary Oldman’s Oscar nomination chances are quite low? The Houston Film Critics Circle also announced their nominees, and Oldman has not been considered (Nomination spot #5 was Michael Shannon for ‘Take Shelter’. Other nominees are Clooney, Dujardin, Fassbender, and Pitt).
