Super 8 bites the dust…
As does Thor, which I was predicting to make it in. If we’re assuming that Rise, Potter, and Hugo are going to be nominees, what will take the last two spots? I think it’s between Captain America, Real Steel, Trannies 3, and of course Tree of Life.
Yup, that’s pretty much what I’m thinking too. Tree is the wildcard, but I think will get in since the Academy does like one nominee that’s not as loud as the others, like Hereafter last year.
I never thought super 8 would make it. The train sequence was great but the main monster was noticeably cgi and not near as good cgi as years past. We live in a post avatar world so the effects people have to step it up. Glad about ghost protocol and tree of life still in the mix.
The post Avatar world still nominated Alice in Wonderland, Hereafter, and Iron Man 2, which hardly moved the industry forward. Don’t discount the vote going to less showy effects. Super 8 was never going to win, but it was as good or better than some of the contenders still around. It’s just a matter of industry preference.
i’m still getting the vibe that Rise is the frontrunner here, which bugs me a lot. at no point in that movie did i find a single effect truly convincing – i never believed there were apes on the screen. i rewatched HP7 the other night, and found the dragon alone to be more convincing than a single thing in Rise (human performances included).
I am going to say this…
“Captain America: The First Avenger”
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2″
“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”
“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”
“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”
Alternates:
“Hugo”
“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”
