  1. Hooray for Allen and Fincher! Some much needed buzz boost for both those directors. Really glad to see Payne get back into the conversation and The Artist was just a treat to watch. Sad to see Scorsese nominated over Malick though, but Hugo was really good so I’m not too put out about it. Glad to see the Spielberg snub for War Horse, I just didn’t think he deserved a nom over these directors and Malick. Overall a great selection from the DGA!

  2. Is “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” a Best Picture nominee now? If it is, then “Drive” better be.

  3. Really glad Malick didn’t get nominated. One of the most self-indulgent filmmakers working today. SO excited about Woody Allen and David Fincher getting nominated. If only Refn was nominated…..

    • Malick might be indulgent, but I though Refn’s direction in Drive was pretty indulgent too, although awesome….

      • Refn is awesome indulgent while Malick is boring indulgent. It’s just me though, I respect that people like him.

        • See I think Malick’s indulgence is awesome as well, I wish at least Refn or Malick got a DGA nomination.

  4. Dragon Tattoo has now been nominated by the PGA, DGA and WGA. But it missed the SAG ensemble nod. That is exactly what happened to The Dark Knight.

  5. Seen only Midnight in Paris and I can easily say that Refn, Clooney and Chandor are more deserving than Woody Allen.

  6. Does this mean Woody Allen is a lock?

  7. Drive is snubbed yet again. I have a feeling it will turn out like Fight Club, not appreciated justly at the time it came out, but will only get better with age. In a few years Drive will be loved. I LOVE the Fincher nomination. I would’ve been so pissed if Spielberg got a nomination. It would be nice to see Refn or Miller in Allen’s spot, though. But I still love Allen. But it doesn’t matter, no one can beat Hazanavicius.

    • Drive is already appreciated in its time. Fight Club was totally snubbed of any critics awards and had nowhere near the fanboy following that Drive has. Drive has won numerous precursor awards and just look at all the fanboys on this website and the internet, so many people already love it, including me! Love the Fincher nom as well!

  8. Terrence Malick should be in there. If anybody could appreciate “indulgent” directing you’d think it would be their own guild. Some people have done a great job this year, but when’s the next time you’re going to see something that is so completely one person’s total vision like ToL is Malick’s? His next couple of films don’t sound (yet) like they’re going to come close to this one. Pretty sad that Scorsese is in there for Hugo and Malick isn’t.

  9. I had predicted that one of the old guard (Allen, Scorsese, or Spielberg) would wind up not getting nominated in favor of one of the newer faces on the scene (Fincher or Taylor), with Hazanavicius and Payne safe…but I would never have guessed that the beard would be the odd man out…

  10. A split must have happened between Tintin and War Horse. I still think he will make it Oscar morning just because they love him. But a win…now that’s pushing!

  11. Spielberg was robbed! He deserved to get nominated over Hanavicius or even Payne. Can’t argue against the other though.

  12. With all due respect, fincher does not deserve this for dragon! It was a good movie, but no way was it among the best
