We will be LIVE Blogging the Awards Show starting at 7:30pmET.  Join us here!

Awards season officially kicks off this evening on VH1 as the Broadcast Film Critics Association unveils their best in film for 2011 at the Critics Choice Movie Awards.  The show begins at 8:00pm ET with hosts Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel cracking the audience and viewers up with their comedic humor and chemistry.  It’ll be a great show!

Now, we will address in what directions my colleagues will be going with their choices for the very best of the year.  The group typically lines up with what many “want” to happen as they chose “The Social Network” as their Best Picture of the Year over the eventual Oscar winner, “The King’s Speech.”  That could bode well for films like “Drive” or even “The Tree of Life.”  What it boils down to is “The Artist” vs. “Hugo.”  I would throw “The Descendants” into the mix but it missed out on a Directing nomination for Alexander Payne, which means something.

Some questions may become clearer tonight as our Oscar hopefuls are given the chance to do acceptance speeches which sadly means a lot in our day and age.  Some say the giggling between Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal and the Screen Actors Guild Awards caused a backlash for their performances and the film.  I’m not sure I believe that.  Melissa Leo was causing a stir last year for performance in “The Fighter” as she took out advertisements for herself and gave lackluster speeches in the award shows.  She won in the end, but some thought it would be her downfall.

Here are the Predictions for tonight’s show:

    1. Viola Davis for The Help? Are you kidding? Without any real awards? NO WAY!

Michelle and Meryl won several critics, Viola didn’t. How the hell would she win the biggest critics awards over those amazing actresses and performances?
