    1. With no Malick nominated, it seems this is Hazanavicius all the way.

    2. I would hope Hazanvicius wins. Scorsese’s got his and he shouldn’t be winning again for Hugo. And I would hope Malick can upset at the Oscars. Without him being in here we can’t know that it’s not a possibility.

    3. If Hazanavicious wins here, then he’ll probably win the Oscar, unless Terrence Mallick pulls off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Academy Awards. After all, he’ll become the first Oscar winner who hasn’t even been nominated by the DGA! But this will be such a beautiful victory!

    4. This is definitely between Hazanavicius and Scorsese, and the former is probably going to take the DGA and the Oscar. Among those nominees, I think he deserves it. I really can’t see Malick pulling out the win here. His lack of DGA nomination notwithstanding, “The Tree of Life” isn’t universally loved enough for him to win. I really think this is Hazanavicius’s to lose.

    5. I just think it took a good bit of votes to get him in over one of the guild’s selections. There could be more support for him than you might think. Hazanavicius will probably get it, but I’d be ok with either. Scorsese would be more of an upset I think, especially for Hugo.

    6. Well I hope Scorsese gets his second DGA Award and second oscar, as it’s much deserved. Normally whoever wins DGA gets the oscar too but, at the DGA there’s no Malick, so we can’t be shore for the Oscars. If anyone should upset the great Scorsese at the Oscars, it’s Malick as he deserves an Oscar too and he’s nominated for a reason. I think many people underestimate him, but he could be victorious at the end.

    7. Hazanavicius all the way w/ Scorcese peeking over his shoulder.

    8. I understand that Malick has a lot of support, but even though he got a nomination ahead of others who had industry support, I still think he’s at least the third or fourth choice for the Oscar. I predicted he’d get a nomination because it would have been easier with the directors branch of the Academy with a few hundred members rather than the thousand-plus membership of the DGA, which often includes a lot of populist choices. I saw evidence to suggest Malick as an Oscar nominee, but I have yet to see him as the surprise winner.

Maybe Brad Pitt will campaign on his behalf since he can’t do it for Bennett Miller, but I sill don’t see Malick winning for this film. He’s got plenty of other projects in the future. However, if he does, I will be the first to take back all I’ve said, but I really don’t see that happening at this point.
