Who doesn’t love a little romance and getting swept off their feet?

I’m the type of person who has an extremely hard shell, but man do I love romance, a happy ending and those sappy love lines like “You complete me.” I also love when movies have those long monologues about why one character loves the other one. They get me every time, and it’s not normal, I know. But I’m a girl, so get over that.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner and the release of The Vow this weekend, couples around the world are going to be forced into watching all types of romance films. On Valentine’s Day people love to go out to dinner, but restaurants are always so crowded. So guys and gals make your honey a wonderful dinner and spend the night curled up on the couch watching a movie that will remind you why you love to love.

To make your Valentine’s Day a stress free affair, here is a list of the 50 best love films of the new millennium you can enjoy with your Valentine. Read more on The 50 Best Love Stories of the New Millennium…

And the Nominees Are:

The Artist
The Descendants
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Hugo
Moneyball

Tied into the Best Picture race more than any other tech category is Best Film Editing. Scoring a Best Picture win without at least a nomination here, if not a win, is incredibly rare and almost unheard of. Of late, the field has been almost entirely filled with nominees for the top prize, but at times the Academy has seen fit to cite top notch action here as well. This year, 4 of the 5 nominees are also Best Picture contenders, and that makes this part of the race pretty interesting. We have last year’s winners in play again too (that’s the picture right here to the right, in case you were wondering), plus a legend in the industry at what she does. All this makes for a lot to take in and analyze, but I’m going to do my best! What may seem somewhat clear cut is not quite so, which makes this more fun, of course. Anyway, before we get too deep into it, let’s settle down for a bit of history, shall we?

Filmmaker Ti West continue to hone his skills (and his resume, for that matter) as an emerging master of the horror genre with his latest fright flick ‘The Innkeepers’. This isn’t the scariest film you’ll see this year, but it has some great characters, a wonderful and wonderfully utilized setting and treats its story and the genre with a combination of respect and mockery that makes for a fun time at the movies. I liked what West gave us with ‘The House of the Devil’, but this is a less gimmicky and more complete package, featuring better characters and more humor to boot. For me, this is the best horror movie of 2012 so far…not that this is necessarily high praise, but it happens to be the truth. By making you care about the characters and keeping the tension level consistently high, we’re treated to a creepy and effective experience. The flick never tries to do too much, and because of that, it’s a very solidly successful movie. Personally, I can’t wait to see what West does with a real budget one day, because his talent seems to know no bounds. For now, he’s content to work deep within the independent realm, but I suspect that this won’t be for too much longer. He’s far too good to not get the call from Hollywood.
