Yes, things aren’t too clear considering ‘The Artist’ wasn’t eligible (among other films that perhaps could have posed a threat) for the Writers Guild, but this still is good momentum for both Woody Allen and Alexander Payne’s features. As you can see below, this is the full cinematic list of what the WGA Awards look like:
Best Original Screenplay: Woody Allen, “Midnight in Paris”
Best Adapted Screenplay: Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, “The Descendants”
Best Documentary Screenplay: Katie Galloway and Kelly Duane de la Vega, “Better This World”
Paul Selvin Award: Tate Taylor, “The Help”
Laurel Award: Eric Roth
So essentially, ‘The Descendants’ now may be locked in for Best Adapted Screenplay, while Original Screenplay is still a battle between ‘The Artist’ and ‘Midnight in Paris’. It’s going to be fun to see how that one turns out…

Somewhat expected wins, but still noteworthy…
Descendants has a good chance, but by no means is it locked – Moneyball could easily upset. Both screenplay categories are in contention between two likely choices: Descendants and Moneyball in Adapted, and The Artist and Midnight in Paris in Original. My money’s on the two winners here, but who knows what will happen.
Of course…it just seems that The Descendants has all of the momentum right now.
