It’s Friday. Oscars are on Sunday. I’ve rattled my brain for hours, days, weeks. It hurts. I can’t. I am fully ready to be wrong in many categories. I also chickened out in several categories.
I wanted to put Max Von Sydow instead of Christopher Plummer. Not happening. Can I get some type of credit if it happens? No? I thought so. I wanted to place “The Artist” winning Original Screenplay over Woody Allen and “Midnight in Paris.” Terrible. I’m usually good at taking the big stabs. I chose Amy Adams when everyone said it was Rachel Weisz. I acknowledged I was wrong but I still went for it. It happens. But I have called great things like “The Hurt Locker” in May or Alan Arkin over Eddie Murphy and when I was in high school and had no idea what I was talking about I said Marcia Gay Harden for “Pollock.” Maybe it’ll be a safe year, maybe it’ll be a complete mind-trip, but at least it’ll be over. And then we can start this painful process again on Monday morning with the Year-In-Advance predictions.
You can check out each category through the Oscar Prediction pages with commentary for each category and my Who Will Win/Should Win. If you read the Davis Awards 2011, then you know my dream nominations and winners. Collectively, they are after the jump.

Almost my exact same predictions again boss…looks like we’re headed for another tie!

I’ve put up my predictions for the major categories including the acting races and animated feature at http://www.wtfoosh.blogspot.com.
Our predictions are fairly tied with the exception of I’ve gone for ‘The Artist’ for Original Screenplay – something about it’s BAFTA win just has me thinking it could steamroll like ‘The King’s Speech’ and ‘The Hurt Locker’ did as Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay winners. Woody Allen has more clout than the competitors of those respective years but I dunno, something in me just sees them snubbing Woody again, even though this is the best shot he’s had at that third Oscar for years.

Clayton – we match up 23/24! The only difference we have is in Sound Editing, where I went with War Horse to split the Sound categories with Hugo. It was either a really predictable year, or great minds just think alike – I prefer the idea of the latter… Best of luck with your predictions!

I’m a new member to your site. I really enjoy it. I’m pretty much in full agreement with your predictions. I think if Viola loses then it will be Meryl. Glenn would be a great choice too. Do you have a big Oscar night celebration? Just checked out the teacher/chef who has an Oscar themed week on his cooking blog. http://www.cookingwithmrc.tumblr.com Today’s salute to Midnight in Paris has some mouth watering French food. Boy, i wish I could cook.

I think Glenn Close has no chance, sadly. My feeling says that Streep will win.

Those are my exact predictions too (for the main 8 + animated, doc, foreign, and song). I have The Help as my BP alternate and Streep as my Best Actress alternate but other than than, our alternates are the same. I haven’t thought about the technical or “short” categories yet. I will do that over the weekend before the ceremony on Sunday. Glad I’m not off-base with my predictions though.

Oh man, if Descendants wins the “Adapted Screenplay” category, I’ll really have to wrap my head around that bizarre choice. It’ll be the most unpleasant screenplay win since ‘Inglorious Basterds’ lost to ‘The Hurt Locker.’ Don’t get me wrong, I love the ‘Hurt Locker,’ but Mark Boal could never have written such poetic dialogue that Quentin Tarantino penned for Christoph Waltzs’ Hans Landa in that opening chapter. Still one of the great written scenes in cinema history. Who cares if Sorkin won two years in a row. He deserves to! Moneyball’s zippy dialogue was the best part of this somewhat overrated film.

Sorkin wins*

My predictions are almost identical with the following exceptions:
Best Original Screenplay: The Artist
Best Makeup: Harry Potter
Best Visual Effects: Hugo. Alternate: Harry Potter
Best Documentary: Pina
Best Documentary Short: God Is Bigger Than Elvis
Is going to be a great treat to see Dolores Hart on the Red Carpet. Woohoo!!!
