    2. I’d like to correct you, Mike. Cauron made the WORST Potter.

      • And I would like to stand by my colleague in his assertion that the Prisoner of Azkaban is indeed a superior film, primarily *because* it wasn’t so determined to appease its fanbase to the T. No, Cuaron is too smart and visually creative a filmmaker for that.

        • He also erased all of the humor, emotion, character development, and important plot points.

          • If only I’d seen any of these, I’d know what to make of it.

          • No, I think you’re mistaken for Order of the Phoenix. I agree, Cuaron’s Prisoner of Azkaban is a fantastic film.

      • Ditto koook160, thank god Cauron only did one or the Potter franchise as a whole would be awful. Chris Columbus’ Philosopher’s Stone is probably the best.

        • As a fan of ALL the Harry Potter films, AZKABAN is different and unique and took some risks that no other director attempted in that series. He went dark-ish and no surprise…his different interpretation of the material resulted in the least successful of the films box office wise. Keep in mind, it was Cuaron who transitioned them from wizard student caricatures and made them look, feel, and seem like identifiable teenagers for the first time in the series. He got them out of Hogwarts really for the first time and the subsequent films built on his vision. Then again, I am a Cuaron apologist and could write 10,000 words about how amazing his adaptation of A LITTLE PRINCESS is, so…there’s my perspective for better or worse…

    3. There’s a very simple reason why Tim Burton doesn’t make the kind of movies he used to: “Alice in Wonderland” made a billion dollars. It’s a shame that he’s been disappointing lately, however, I actually liked the “Dark Shadows” trailer. Mainly because it doesn’t look like a serious version of that terrible show; it looks like they’re having fun with it, and I’m looking forward to it. Also, it doesn’t seem like Depp and Carter are a couple in this, so that crisis may be averted.

There is also talk that the change in the date is the Academy trying things out to see if they can move the ceremony earlier, especially with them going to online voting.

I also agree that Ben McKenzie is very underrated in Junebug. It’s a movie I didn’t go crazy for, but understood all the love for Adams. She’s great in the film, and has been ever since.

    4. Are we going to have another retread of Davis/Streep next week too? :) One week wasn’t going to deter the Weinsteins from slanting things their way. Sad as it is, they weren’t going to lose anything.

      • We tried to avoid it. We truly did. The Weinsteins just creep in any which way they can it seems…
