As a film reviewer, I seem to stumble into the same conversations time and time again when I share my thoughts on a film adaptation of a widely acclaimed and/or massively successful book I have yet to read. I often find the talk comes to rest with the individual who has read the book informing me…”Well, you haven’t read the book, so…”.
In the case of a film like The Help for example, several folks made mention that I simply did not like the movie near to the level of someone who experienced the book. In the case of Twilight, I am often told that I simply don’t get it. And now we have The Hunger Games, a cinematic adaptation of the massively popular Suzanne Collins trilogy, which is also the most eagerly anticipated film to arrive in months. And I have yet to read the book. So, pardon me “Hunger Games” fans as I tread ever so lightly through the next few paragraphs.
And to those Twilight Saga fans out there…
This is how you make a proper book-to-film adaptation.

Directed by: Alfonso Cuarón
Written by: Alfonso Cuarón, Jonás Cuarón and Rodrigo García
Cast: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney
Synopsis (from MarketSaw): Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes.
The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. Read more on Awards Profile: Gravity…
Dancing with the Stars has begun its new season! Excuse my French, but shit, that was the best first show to a season of Dancing with the Stars I have ever seen!!! I don’t believe I have ever been so impressed and excited by a group of stars to this magnitude before.
Coming into this season I was extremely unsure of how each star would perform. I knew certain stars would be better than others, but never did I expect every star to come out and perform really well. Granted, it’s only the first of many nights of dancing, so I’m looking forward to what the stars will bring next week. But right now our focus is Monday night, so here we go. The third week of The Voice Battle Rounds proved incredibly frustrating yet immensely rewarding. There were so many amazing performances in a single episode, I was floored by the amount of talent. In all honesty, all but two of the acts who performed tonight should have been sent straight to the live rounds without a second hesitation. The unfortunate part was that some great, and I’m stressing great, talent was let go. The annoying part was that two individuals who lost their round performed the best of the week. I was incredibly upset with some of the judges’ winner picks, and even though last week I was in total agreement with the Battle Round victor selections, I can’t deny that this Battle Rounds episode brought a credibility to this show I still had underestimated. American Idol, be warned. This show has the true stars on it. Let’s dive right into the amazing episode of The Voice, where I dissect each performance and shed a few tears as I see two very important talents leave us this week. This Wednesday, the Top 10 on American Idol will be tackling the songs of famed singer-songwriter, Billy Joel. I, for one, am excited about this theme, particularly because Billy Joel’s songs are awesome and incredibly diverse, making for a wide range of unique song choices that could provide a memorable night on Idol. The success of the night, as usual, depends on the wise song selections by our Idols. Like Jimmy Iovine stated during last Thursday’s results show, no matter what song suggestions the mentors try to shove down the contestants’ throats, the decision ultimately lies with our Idols. Last week proved disastrous for some frontrunners (I’m looking at you, Jessica Sanchez), because many were just too ignorant to choose songs they were unfamiliar with, and instead settled on predictable selections that did nothing to show off their artistry or musical creativity. I’m here, once again, crossing my fingers that the Idols take my advice and make the best decisions for themselves if they want a chance of making that all-important finale. I don’t care what Randy Jackson says — song choice is everything on Idol. Check below to see what choices from the Billy Joel songbook I select for our remaining ten contestants.
