Oscar Prediction Updates Begin…

…with what I’m calling “starter” predictions.  They’re not in the typical format I’ve had before like the “FOR IT-AGAINST IT” type.  I have simple rankings of the films with thirty contenders listed for the following categories:

  • Picture
  • Director
  • Lead Actor
  • Lead Actress
  • Supporting Actor
  • Supporting Actress

I will bring back the same format (unless any of you prefer this one but I think not?) before the summer season begins.  This keeps some Oscar talk your way and I’m sure you’ll have plenty to say about the rankings of contenders.  Have at it!  Screenplay and the Techs will be updated throughout the weekend!

I prefer the old format, but this one isn’t bad either.

I think the new format is good because it looks like it’s a lot easier to update. While I love the old format, I would appreciate the new format if it meant more frequent updates. Last year was getting pretty ridiculous with the infrequent updates, especially after key precursors like SAG and the Golden Globes. I’d love to see more frequent updates, even if it means they are less detailed.

P.S. — It’s nice to see that TDKR and Hobbit made the lists. IMO due to their franchise track records, they are contenders until they are proven to be non-contenders, even though they seem to get tons of hate from the editors on this site.

I wouldn’t call it hate at all. I would call it just not thinking they’re going to win man awards, and I agree. I think they’ll both get very good reviews, but you can’t call either contenders until they’re proven to be non-contenders, it’s the other way around. The only thing The Dark Knight got from the Oscars was the Heath Ledger, so what will make the sequel any different? The Hobbit has a better chance cause they nominated the first two and awarded the third, but you can’t call it hate when they just don’t think they’ll be very successfull with awards.
