4 years later….
It’s coming! On May 1, 2012, it will mark four years that the Awards Circuit has been up and running. Can’t believe it’s been that long. For our longtime readers, The Oscar Igloo was around five years prior to that. We’ve been kicking butt with lots of ups and downs but we continue to strive to perfection!
We are in the process of planning of system and design restructure. We’ve been down this road last September but we’ve ran into some coding issues, if any of you are familiar with web design, our site has a lot of it, as well as other glitches that must be addressed before our next Oscar season begins. So, we are asking our community to help us out!

Did I just hear a cannon? It looks like Gary Ross will not be returning to direct Catching Fire, even though The Hunger Games will probably clean up at the box office for the fourth week in a row. It will be challenged by three new releases, one of which is apparently much better than anticipated…

Not only has the new creature feature from Drew Goddard and Joss “horror with a wink and a nudge” Whedon been receiving a lot of online buzz for a low-budget Lionsgate horror flick not called Saw, but it has been attracting some serious rave reviews. Critics have been calling The Cabin in the Woods a stupendously clever and genuinely frightening movie comparable to genre-bending classics like Evil Dead II. Because I am one of those who wants to see this movie with as little knowledge of the plot as possible, I’m not even going to publish a bare-bones synopsis beyond speculating that it has to do with a cabin located somewhere in a woodland area. For box office, I’m predicting a respectable $13-18 million opening just slightly below The Hunger Games. Read more on Weekend Openings (April 13-15)…
Rian Johnson is quickly becoming one of the most interesting filmmakers out there. It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t love ‘Brick’, and ‘The Brothers Bloom’ was a fun little flick that’s pretty underrated. His next movie is the sci-fi action hybrid ‘Looper’, and by all accounts is something really unique. We have the debut of the Teaser Trailer for you after the jump, and you can see the first Poster as well. Count me in for this one, ladies and gents. Take a look at them below…

Whenever Quentin Tarantino has a new film on the horizon, we tend to look for any bit of news relating to the film that we can, and it’s no exception with ‘Django Unchained’. From images of the script on down, whatever you can find is fit to print. Today we have something a bit better though, the debut of the Teaser Poster for you all! You can see it below after the jump, but it’s a solid signal that in the coming months the hype machine will begin ramping up for ‘Django Unchained’. Take a gander below and see what you think about this potential Oscar player…

Here we go. Now that Gary Ross has moved on from directing ‘Catching Fire’, Lionsgate needs to get a new filmmaker in place quickly. We’ve already bandied about some names here (I personally was big on either Gavin O’Connor or Matt Reeves), but it seems that the studio is going straight to the top in their hunt, looking into over a half dozen contenders, including David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuaron, and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. I’m skeptical they can get any of these, but over at 24 Frames they have a piece on just that, which you can read below after the jump. I expect someone slightly lower profile to get the gig, but we shall see. Check out the story below…

The Cannes Film Festival will soon unleash a number of potentially extraordinary films on us (even if we don’t yet know which ones), but for now, the only news to be had is that actor Tim Roth will be in charge of the Un Certain Regard jury at the festival. You can see the press release after the cut, but consider this a primer to the upcoming announcement of the movies in competition. Take a look at the announcement below…
