‘Cosmopolis’ is not a film that’s especially high on my list of anticipated releases for 2012, and I honestly don’t know why that is. I like David Cronenberg and it sounds like a flick I’d want to see. Go figure, maybe it’s the Robert Pattinson factor keeping me at arm’s length? Who knows, but anyway…the trailer has made its way onto the internet, so you can see it after the jump, complete with an announcement that this will be one of the films playing at the Cannes Film Festival (this actually came a few hours ahead of the official announcement of the festival lineup). Give it a look below and let me know if I’m nuts for not being more excited about this particular movie…I have a feeling that I could very well be, but I’ll leave that up to you all.

Well, that was… interesting. It looks like Cronenberg is going back to his “head explody” roots. I was doubting Pattison, but the trailer looked like he may work out. “May” being the keyword. In Cronenberg I trust…

It’s not that Pattison CAN’T do the part (he seems adequate and I’m sure Cronenberg has his reasons for casting him), it’s just that there are so many other hard working actors of equal or greater talent that would love to have the part. I have read several interviews lately where actors are pointing to a current proliferation of talent but a lack of quality roles, and it’s just a little disheartening to see such a prime role go to someone who honestly probably got the role based on his public image (my theory is that Cronenberg, in his own twisted way, cast Pattison purely for the purpose of subverting Pattison’s ‘heartthrob’ image with a twisted against-type role).

I did not like Pattinson in Twilight, but this trailer looks great, the overall trailer looks great. I’ll give a chance to Pattinson

Actors need good directors. Watch Natalie Portman in Black Swan and The Professional and then watch her in The Phantom Menace. Pattinson is going to be great in this. It’s been one of my most anticipated since Cronenberg got involved. Hell yeah.

It’s certainly unlikely to be up Oscar’s alley, but I’m game for Cronenberg working in this type of realm again…

INTENSE…do you think this might have a shot at the Oscars?

Almost none in my opinion, but we’ll see.
