  • Official Trailer for ‘Peace, Love and Misunderstanding’ arrives!

Buzz has been surrounding the film and Jane Fonda's work...

    April 28, 2012

A big sigh of relief is necessary, as we finally get to see an official trailer for the upcoming indie film, ‘Peace, Love and Misunderstanding.’ The film had its premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and was picked up by IFC Films for a 2012 release date. I was worried that this indie flick, starring the vibrantly sensational Jane Fonda and the always-excellent Catherine Keener, would not see the light of day for some time. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film is slated for a summer release on June 8th.

This film has been on my personal Oscar watch since the start of the year. It has all the ingredients necessary for those independent flicks that seem to always make the “Best Picture” list: “family in turmoil” narrative, high profile cast, well-respected director, and comedic flavoring aplenty. Jane Fonda parodies herself in this movie as an overtly liberal grandmother who clashes with her conservative daughter (Catherine Keener) when she brings her family over for a visit. With hot-button issues like divorce, politics, and family relationships, this is a universal film that can appeal to moviegoer and Academy member alike. Look out for a potential Oscar campaign for Jane Fonda in the “Best Actress” category. Will Bruce Beresford’s (Director of 1989′s “Best Pic” Winner, Driving Miss Daisy, in case anyone forgot) independent film continue in the same vein as The Descendents, Little Miss Sunshine, Juno, and The Kids Are All Right when it comes walking that glorious path to Oscar? We shall certainly see. Without further ado, I am pleased to bring you the first official trailer for ‘Peace, Love and Misunderstanding’:
