David Koepp to script “Snow White and the Huntsman” sequel

2

Even though Snow White and the Huntsman has yet to hit theaters, Universal is hoping they have a franchise on their hands by fast tracking a sequel. Deadline is reporting that David Koepp is in discussions to write the script for the sequel so that director Rupert Sanders will be able to make it the next project he directs.

While fast tracking franchise sequels isn’t a new concept (see Catching Fire), it is interesting that they are green lighting this without seeing how well the first one will do. Considering that Hunstman is the first feature film for the screenwriter and director (with a $100 million dollar budget no less), Universal must think that Snow White and the Huntsman will be a big hit. It should win it’s opening weekend and has a great chance of having legs if Prometheus, which opens June 8, is released as an R rated film. There’s not another big summer “blockbuster” movie until June 22 when Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter arrives.

Snow White and the Huntsman will be released on June 1, 2012.

  • There better be a good scene during the credits of Snow White and the Huntsman, other wise it would be pointless to make a sequel unless there’s more to the story or something.

Premature given the “Mirror Mirror” reception. Looking this far out, I don’t think it’s needed.
