  • ‘Maleficent’ adds Sharlto Copley

"District 9" star adds another project...

    May 4, 2012

Well, Sharlto Copley is having himself quite a week, isn’t he? After signing on to Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake and the movie Open Grave, Deadline has learned that Copley is in negotiations to join Maleficent as King Stefan, the father of Princess Aurora. Angelina Jolie is already signed on to play evil sorceress Maleficent. This movie will attempt to tell the story of Sleeping Beauty from the point of the villainess.

While the casting of Jolie and Copley bodes well, it’s interesting that they haven’t signed an actor to play Aurora . Elle Fanning had been rumored to be in talks but nothing has been inked. With a first time director and a date already in place, Disney should probably be casting Aurora soon.

Maleficent is scheduled to come out on March 14, 2014.

    1. This as a live action movie just seems like a bad idea… When the original is one of the high points of animation, do you really want to chance another Alice in Wonderland?
