It’s hard to imagine that anyone pegged Jonah Hill as an in demand dramatic actor just a few years ago, but it looks like his Oscar nominated role in ‘Moneyball’ has opened a ton of new doors for him. The Hollywood Reporter has announced here that Hill is now going to co-star with Leonardo DiCaprio in his latest collaboration with Martin Scorsese, the drama ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’. It appears that he’ll be DiCaprio’s friend and someone else who gets roped into the world of fast times and high finance. Hit the jump to read where I think Hill’s career is headed next, but in short…I love this casting choice.

Jonah Hill was terrific in more dramatic territory in ‘Moneyball’, yet hasn’t lost any of his comedic prowess, as we saw with the remake of ’21 Jump Street’. I have no doubt that he’ll be strong in this flick, especially under Scorsese’s direction, but I’m rather hopeful that this is the new path that Hill is going to take with his career. Essentially, about a 60-40 split between comedy and drama, potentially with him being the lead in the former and a supporting player in the latter. Regardless, I think it’s very possible that his surprise Oscar nod last year might not be the only one he gets in his career.

    About Joey Magidson

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 200 and 300 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Internet Film Critics Association as well. Today the IFCA, tomorrow the world!

    1. I liked him a lot in Moneyball and 21 Jump Street, so it might be cool to see him continue to alternate like this!
