Logan Marshall-Green has been generating some nice career momentum with parts in The Devil and starring in the highly anticipated blockbuster Prometheus. He poised to take on his biggest role yet, tackling the great American playwright Tennessee Williams in a new biopic Lonely Hunter. Indiewire is reporting that the movie will be about Carson McCullers, writer of The Heart is A Lonely Hunter, as she hangs around Paris with her writer friends Williams and Truman Capote, as well as her tumultuous life. Jena Malone, who appeared in Sucker Punch, has been cast to play McCullers and Deborah Kampmeier (Hounddog) will direct.
Honestly, I think this movie sounds great but I’m a little disappointed that Tenessee Williams won’t be getting his own biopic and will instead be part of another writer’s story. Williams has written some of the greatest plays of the 20th century, like A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and has a pretty interesting life himself that would make a great feature film. The production is also looking to cast actors to play the roles of Truman Capote and Gypsy Rose Lee, the latter of whom’s life was immortalized in the musical Gypsy. That’s a lot of people with dramatic lives put into the same narrative meaning that this film could be incredibly exciting or over the top., hopefully for us viewers it’s the former.
The movie is expected to start shooting later this year.
