It’s good to be at the Cannes Film Festival for many reasons, but at the top of the list right now has got to be the fact that right about as you’re reading this (or slightly before/after, depending) The Weinstein Company is showing footage from three of their biggest 2012 releases, according to The Playlist here. They’ve got bits of ‘Django Unchained’, and ‘The Silver Linings Playbook’ to show off, along with a full screening of ‘The Master’. After the jump I’ll get into what this means for the films, but consider me jealous of those in France (or at least more so than usual) right now…

After Cars 2 failed to impress, Pixar has a lot riding on Brave and they’ve given it a prime showcase. Pixar has announced that Brave will permiere during the Los Angeles Film Fest on June 18 at the grand opening of the Dolby Theater. As you know Dolby recently bought the rights to the Hollywood and Highland Center, outfitting the the theater with the latest in 3D imaging technology, so the choice to screen the film there seems like a great fit. The full press release is available after the jump. In addition to that premiere news, Pixar also announced that this coming weekend AMC theaters will screen 4 of Pixar’s greatest hits, Up, WALL-E, Ratatouille, and Toy Story 3, for $6 each. You can find participating theaters at this link.

Scott Z. Burns is an interesting writer. He’s never overtly wowed me, but I’ve always liked his screenplays slightly more than I expected to. Burns has pretty much also become the go-to scribe for Steven Soderbergh of late, but this announcement here from Collider states that his next project isn’t going to be for Soderbergh, but rather scripting the sequel to ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’. There’s already been a draft turned into Fox from the original writers of that flick, but apparently Burns is next in line to take a crack at it. I’ll get into what the sequel might be about after the jump, but I think we could be in line for something pretty epic if my calculations are correct.
