For the third week in a row, Marvel’s The Avengers will claim the title of Box Office champion, as the film brought in another $55 million or so. This weekend brought the domestic total for the film to over $457 million, making it the fastest movie ever to reach the $450 million mark (in just 17 days!!). The previous record was held by The Dark Knight, which took a full ten days longer to reach such an astronomic tally. Not only is it on pace to be the highest grossing film of all time, but The Avengers is now Disney’s highest grossing film ever, both domestically and worldwide. It has settled into fourth place all-time, behind Avatar, Titanic, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Universal’s Battleship debuted in the number two spot this weekend, raking in just over $25 million. Battleship, the film inspired by the classic board game, cost nearly $209 million to make, so the people at Universal had to be hoping for more domestically. But don’t feel too bad for them, the film made over $226 million overseas. Not a good year thus far for star Taylor Kitsch, who saw an earlier film of his flop just as poorly (John Carter). The poor showing for Battleship is said to be the worst opening weekend ever for a film (domestically) with a $200+ million budget.

What do Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest film, The Dictator, and real-life terrorist dictators have in common? They’ve both bombed.

While still managing to come in third this weekend, The Dictator opened early on Wednesday and still managed to just get over $24 million.

Dark Shadows sucked another $12.8 million out of its unsuspecting victims, while What to Expect When You’re Expecting debuted to a measly $10.5 million to round out the top 5 for the weekend.

    1. The Avengers — $55.1 mil
    2. Battleship — $25.3 mil
    3. The Dictator — $17.4 mil
    4. Dark Shadows — $12.8 mil
    5. What to Expect When You’re Expecting — $10.5 mil
