While I was heartily rooting for Emmanuel Lubezki to win the Oscar for cinematography, it’s hard to begrude Robert Richardson, because the cinematography of Hugo was incredibly impressive. If you’ve ever wondered how the camera actually captures the moments on film, First Showing has uncovered a fun behind the scenes video in which you can take ride on the Steadicam through the last shot of the film. It’s a great look into how the crew, camera, and actors interact during the filming of a movie with quick changing sets and a moving camera. Take a gander at the clip to witness the magic of movie making.

Steve McQueen is one of the most interesting up and coming directors working today. With ‘Hunger’ and ‘Shame’, he’s made two terrific films (though I like the latter a lot better and actually find the former to be very slightly overrated), and his next project ‘Twelve Years A Slave’ could be his most ambitious one yet. It’s certainly got his highest profile cast to date, with Michael Fassbender again working with McQueen, and the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor and Brad Pitt. Well, hot on the heels of Paul Dano joining the cast last week, Variety is reporting here that in demand actor Benedict Cumberbatch has signed up as well. After the jump you can see what the film is about, but it’s currently shaping up to be a really interesting one. I know I’ll be seeing it, hopefully next year sometime…

Flying well below the radar of ‘Lincoln’ and ‘Looper’ is the “other” Joseph Gordon-Levitt movie of 2012 (after he had to pull out of a small part in ‘Django Unchained’), the thriller ‘Premium Rush’. Co-starring Michael Shannon in a scenery chewing role, this bicycle-centric flick doesn’t look like any kind of awards player, but it could be a good time at the movies this summer, and I’ll see anything that Gordon-Levitt is in. Either way, we have the new Trailer available to you after the jump, so you can decide for yourself. I know that I’ll be checking it out…

The first trailer for The Dark Knight Rises took home the honors of Best in Show at the 13th annual Golden Trailer Awards, and as a Cleveland Browns fan I can tell you I never thought Heinz Field looked better than it did collapsing into the Earth in that trailer.

As the official Editor Oscar predictions have begun to be updated and weighed in on, the great writers of the Awards Circuit have updated their Oscar predictions as well. With many jumping on the belief that Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln and Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master will be successful, some are making very unique and head scratching guesses.

The Avengers has conquered the globe to the tune of over $1 billion and counting, and now looks set to cross another frontier. Marvel Studios has announced that with the help of NASA, they have arranged plans to broadcast the film to the International Space Station, 220 miles above the earth. This pretty cool news is part of NASA and Marvel’s partnership that began when the film shot at the Space Power Facility at NASA’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio. Check out the press release after the jump for more information about the program.

If this summer is considered a “competition” among the major studio releases of a year, then June, August and possibly July are going to be rather boring to box office hounds because literally nothing can touch what will most likely be the biggest film of the entire year. But hey, that gives us at least one whole month to relax and enjoy the movies for what they are. Kicking off June is the “other” Snow White revisionist epic, the only new wide release of the weekend…

You see that up there? That drop-dead gorgeous woman finally embracing her fun side after years of post-Monster fussy dramatics smoldering at you in an elaborate costume? You’re looking at the major, no, make that sole reason that I absolutely have to see Rupert Sanders’ directorial debut Snow White & the Huntsman. In this darker version of the classic fairy tale, Theron’s Queen Ravenna rules over a miserable kingdom, sucking the life out of others to maintain her beauty. But when threatened by her stepdaughter Bella Swan, whose spirit can turn back the Queen’s evil influence, Thor is sent to track her down and bring back her heart. Critics have been impressed by Sanders’ impressive visual flair but have criticized the film’s pacing and sullen performance from Kristen Stewart. I couldn’t care less as long as Theron is as awesome as she looks in the trailer. Read more on Weekend Openings (1-3 June)…

Many people were wondering how the Bourne franchise would survive without its star Matt Damon and renowned director Paul Greengrass, but the new trailer for The Bourne Legacy should help alleviate fears that this might be just a lame retread of previous material. While the story will revolve around Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz’ characters, there are a ton of call backs to the previous Bourne films and the universe that was created. The action in this trailer looks slick and the cast on their game, so this should provide some good summer entertainment. The Bourne Legacy will hit theaters August 3.
