  • ‘Kick-Ass 2′ looks to bring back almost the entire original cast!

The sequel will have some very familiar faces to fans of the original...

    June 2, 2012

With the news that Matthew Vaughn won’t be returning to direct the sequel to ‘Kick-Ass’, the main reason to still be interested in this project is the cast. Chloe Moretz’s performance was an absolute delight and scene stealer, and Deadline is reporting here that not only will she be reprising her role in ‘Kick-Ass 2′, but that Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and even Nicolas Cage (somehow) will be back. After the jump I’ll speculate about how they fit in to the flick, but this is certainly good news to me. Without at least a few of them, I’d have lost hope in this sequel very quickly…

I have only a very basic knowledge of what the comic book sequel is about (based on some reviews of the comics that hit stands last year, I believe), but I’d wager that Johnson and Moretz will be the focus of it, with Mintz-Plasse taking over a bigger villain role and Cage providing a flashback of some sort. Just a guess at this point, but I enjoyed them so much the last time out that I’ll be happy with just about anything. Let’s hope that Jeff Wadlow can sufficiently fill Vaughn’s shoes.

    About Joey Magidson

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 200 and 300 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Internet Film Critics Association as well. Today the IFCA, tomorrow the world!

    1. Moretz alone is reason enough to see this…

    2. Actually Hit Girls role is smaller in this one and she emerges more in the second half. The comic centers more on Kick Ass forming an army of superheroes (think Justice League or Avengers) and Red Mist, now Mother F***er forming his own band of villains. It’s more their stories than Hit Girls, partly why the comic is disappointing.

I have absolutely no idea how they are mixing Nicholas Cage into this!
