With ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ getting closer and closer, news and juicy bits about the film are coming out. There’s a bunch of interesting ones from Collider here, but the most fascinating of which was that apparently Warner Brothers was very eager to get Christopher Nolan to use The Riddler as the villain and to cast Leonardo DiCaprio in the role. I wouldn’t have hated that, but I’m glad that Nolan got to maintain his vision unencumbered by any studio interference that we know of. After the jump you can see some other tidbits from the flick (including how this will be the last bit of DP work from Wally Pfister), but at this point we’re just counting the days. July can’t come soon enough…
Here are some of the best bullet points from the article:
Christopher Nolan and co-writer Goyer reportedly knew the ending of The Dark Knight Rises as early as the fall of 2008. They knew it would be their final movie with a fitting end; their only uncertainty was which villain would wreak havoc on Gotham.
“Goyer explained that the ending in The Dark Knight Rises is exactly what they talked about 4 years ago — it’s completely unchanged. When Goyer saw that final scene from The Dark Knight Rises, he got a lump in his throat.”The film features more than an hour of IMAX footage
The Dark Knight Rises will be Wally Pfister’s last movie as Director of Photography, before he moves on to a directing career.
Nolan also confirmed that The Joker will not be addressed at all in the film. As reported, he was also nervous about adding Catwoman.
“Christopher Nolan confirmed that Anne Hathaway’s character, Selina Kyle, is never referred to as “Catwoman” in the script.”

Nothing shocking, but hey…any Batman news is news worth sharing!

DiCaprio is bigger than Bale. That would have never worked. Also, the Riddler is too similar to the Joker. Why Warner thought Nolan would go for this completely flies over my head.

My guess is them wanting a villain as close to the Joker as possible, thinking people would be just as excited. Regardless, it looks like Bane was a good choice, as of now at least.
