The toy to movie trend is something that has been going on for years, but the 8-bit cartoon to movie trend is something new entirely. Disney has released the first trailer for their latest animated movie Wreck-It Ralph which centers on the title character, Wreck-It Ralph, a video game bad guy who longs to be as beloved as the good guy. But when his quest to win a medal soon unleashes a deadly enemy, he teams up with a “glitch” who helps him try and save the arcade. Starring the voice talents of John C. Reily, Jane Lynch, Jack McBrayer, and Sarah Silverman, the film arrives in theaters on November 2.

Rupert Sanders wants to remake ‘The Battle of Algiers’

The 'Snow White and the Huntsman' helmer has his eyes on a classic...

    June 6, 2012

As anyone who read my recent review of ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ (found here) saw, I think director Rupert Sanders has a future in this industry. He’s got a great visual sensibility and hopefully can move on with his next projects to (not necessarily) bigger and (hopefully) better things. Well, The Playlist is reporting here that one of the things on his mind is a science fiction-tinged remake of ‘The Battle of Algiers’, one of the greatest films ever made in my humble opinion. After the jump you can see my thoughts on this potential project (which may never come to pass in the end), but in short…if any of you haven’t seen this movie, correct that at once. You’re really missing out, I assure you.

What truly makes a top 10 film of all time? This was a question my colleagues and I asked ourselves when composing our lists. Many will point to a film’s technical merits, where it stands with critics, or how the film makes them feel. The mark of anyone’s top/best/favorite 10 films should reflect their viewpoint as they stand as a film goer and their critical reasoning. I, for one, can’t distinguish the difference between “best” and “favorite” when it comes to creating a list like this. Implying that one film is better than another is a subjective process that takes in the technical aspects of film criticism as well as your affinity for the material. Just because a film is labeled “classic” or “best” does that mean they should be included on every list? Isn’t eschewing personal feelings for a movie an affront to your own critical thinking process? From this viewpoint, of which I share, there’s no such a thing as a wrong list or a definitive one for that matter.

So without further ado, here are my Top 10 Films of All Time.
