‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ is getting the inevitable franchise treatment…

Regardless of my thoughts on ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’, it’s hard to argue that it hasn’t been successful at the box office. As we all know, that of course means the talk about a sequel is ramping up again. The studio had commissioned one well before the flick opened, but sort of hedged its bets right around the release date. Now that it’s opened well, Deadline is reporting here that the sequel is full speed ahead. I’m not especially excited about this news, but after the jump I’ll get into what might lead to a better film the next time around. The potential is certainly there. Find out the details of what they could do below…

My guess is that the next film will follow the Huntsman in a different fairy tale, not necessarily Snow White (though she could appear, potentially making a hybrid flick of this and other legend). Having David Koepp writing this time around is a start, and I’d hope Rupert Sanders is roped into returning. Essentially, the same directorial vision with a better script is the recipe for success I’d like to see. Will that happen? Who knows…stay tuned though as we find out in the coming months and years.

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 200 and 300 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Internet Film Critics Association as well. Today the IFCA, tomorrow the world!

Do you think they are not going to address that love triangle in the sequel? I wouldn’t have a problem with a stand alone huntsman film, but that was a pretty big plot point that I don’t know if they’ll abandon.

The plan I heard was to focus on Hemsworth, but I could see them starting from where they left off and then going into another tale later on in the film…
