I know it’s getting repetitive, but the wait for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is almost over, ladies and gentlemen. Early Screenings have now begun, and pretty soon the first reviews will be out, and then it’s just a matter of getting in line to see what Christopher Nolan has in store for you. The people over at Collider (here) have a great little video preview for the film that I think you all will enjoy, so you can take a gander at that after the jump. Sit tight my friends…July 20th is almost here! Tease yourself (unless you want to go in completely blind) with this video below…

This whole July thing for Nolan’s last 3 movies drive me nuts. Too long of a wait.

The fever pitch is almost too much to bear. This film is going to have to be in the Oscar conversation if it’s as good as Nolan aims it to be.

It’ll definitely be in the conversation, provided it’s not a disappointment…

Gonna need huge box office success, strong critical praise, and some of that precursor love like the last one got, but it’s also gonna need somethng more.
Alfred: It needs something more.
If I’m not mistaken this is a 5-10 nominee year, right? So doesn’t this flick need like 250 1st place votes to sneak in? That’s tough. I think there is a lot of respect for Nolan, but last year was an indication that when their not pushed they feel no need in recognizing genre pictures(Drive, The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo).

You’re not mistaken, and it’s likely an uphill road, but if the film is as good as it can be, then a number of voters could honor it as the conclusion of a franchise, as they’ve been known to do once or twice in the past. It’s not a slam dunk nominee by any stretch, but it’s in the hunt.

Has anyone read the early release reactions? I know they don’t say as much as the full reviews, but everything sounds pretty much golden and that Nolan has ended the trilogy as a full masterpiece. I will see the midninght premiere in the 70mm imax on my birthday; aka the best birthday present I could ever ask for.

I have, and it makes me anticipate my press screening even more…
Sounds like a good birthday present, indeed.

If Harry Potter can’t get recognized for its conclusion, I wonder if Batman can. If it was a year where we were nominating a straight 10 films (like 2010), then I could see this almost being a lock (if good enough, of course). But in the system where it has to be #1 on enough ballots to make it in, I worry about its chances. Remember, this is an Academy yet to even nominate Nolan for Director, despite his 3 DGA noms (which almost always line up with Oscar). Though I guess if that were ever to change…

It’s going to be pretty interesting as to what the Academy decides to do with Christopher Nolan’s Batman’s trilogy.
Remember, last year, WB had their big-budget awards season FYC adverts for HP which eventually fell flat on its face. Will WB risk to do it again for TDKR? You could say TDK didn’t even get 1% of the awards it deserved, so the Academy HAS got to make it up with TDKR. But then, according to the Academy’s logic (this is not my logic), the lack of love for TDK has already been made up with ‘Inception’ getting a Best Pic nomination (and sweeping the technical Oscars), and Nolan did get nominated for writing (and Best Pic). For Directing, though, what do Nolan’s peers in the Academy think of him? The actors are quite fond of him, but it is the Directors branch that nominates him, not the Actors.
For now, according to me (this is only my opinion), the locks for Best Director are Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master), Steven Spielberg (Lincoln), and Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained). The other two slots could be battled out with Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Hooper (Les Miserables), Nolan (TDKR), Mallick (To The Wonder), Zeitlin (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby), Ang Lee (The Life of Pi), and Peter Jackson (The Hobbit – I). Too tight to call!

I’m not sure why his peers have failed to recognize him with a nomination? Is it because he’s directing films and he’s doing better than most of them? Is it the fact he’s formed such a strong relationship with Warner Bros that he rarely gets hassled by them like some talented directors do when they take on a large studio project? Or is it the fact that he knows how to utilize his talents for a large property where some people have trouble?

I still think the Nokia trailer is easily the best.
omfgitsrohit(Quote) (Reply)
Mark- Working in its favor is that Academy members don’t look at Batman as a “kids movie” like they did with the Potter flicks.

Divya- We shall see…

James- I don’t think anything heinous is going on…just bad luck.

Rohit- Fair enough.
