There’s some cautious optimism out there for Sam Raimi’s ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’. It’d be an easier sell for most if not for the bad taste that ‘Alice in Wonderland’ left in the mouthes of many, but here we are nonetheless today with the debut of the first trailer for the flick in my inbox from Disney. I looked it over, and overall I think it looks visually stimulating and an interesting vehicle for James Franco, but I need to see more of the story before I can get excited for it. Either way, after the jump you can see the trailer and decide for yourself. It likely won’t be boring, that’s for sure. Take a gander at it below…

I did like the beginning of the trailer homaging the beginning of The Wizard of Oz…

You could say that about a lot of films, but I know what you mean.

I’m skeptical about this, and seeing James Franco “act” in this film trailer leads me to believe he could be incredibly miscast. Sam Raimi’s other Spidey actor, Tobey Maguire, seems like a better fit as Oz. I’m getting a Tim Burton ‘Alice and Wonderland’ meets ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ vibe from this film. I’ll go see it for Mila Kunis. By the way, I know I’m breaking my “cannot watch the trailer” rule, but it’s The Wizard of Freaking Oz, so I don’t care!

Art Direction – Check. Costume Design – Check. Makeup – Check. Could be a below the line contender in several categories.

Joseph- As long as it’s better than Alice in Wonderland, I’ll be happy…

I might be the only one, but I’m really looking forward to this film. “The Wizard of Oz” has been a classic for me throughout all my life, and I’m a huge fan of James Franco. I agree that this does give off an “Alice in Wonderland” vibe, but I still remain hopeful that Raimi can pull the visual spectacle together a lot more successfully than Burton did.
