One day, Tobey Maguire will be an Oscar nominee. He made a strong play for a nod a few years ago with ‘Brothers’, and while he doesn’t always pick projects that properly utilize his skill set, he does however often work with interesting filmmakers. The Playlist is reporting here that he’s adding Jason Reitman to that list, taking on a small role for the director’s next film ‘Labor Day’. The story also says that he won’t be in Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi’ though, so you win some, you lose some. After the jump you can see who he’s playing in the flick, but I do like the direction his career is going. Read on below for more on Maguire’s role in Reitman’s film…

Here’s the part of the piece that concerns Maguire’s part in the movie:

“Labor Day” focuses on a thirteen year old boy from New Hampshire who learns valuable life lessons over a five-day Labor Day weekend when his mother (Winslet) inadvertently offers a ride to a wounded, escaped convict (Brolin). Maguire will play the adult version of the boy, and the actor will also narrate the film. “Labor Day” began shooting in early June in Massachusetts and presumably Maguire showed up to shoot a few simple scenes near the end.

    About Joey Magidson

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 200 and 300 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Internet Film Critics Association as well. Today the IFCA, tomorrow the world!

    2. I think him and Ang Lee make a good team so it’s a shame he won’t be in Life of Pi. I hope you’re right Joey about the direction of his career because I think Brothers is the only film I’ve seen him in in the past five years.
