"Critics who are not Batman fans should not be allowed to review these films. Period."

I think that's a bit harsh. Does that mean if you're not a George Clooney fan you can't watch a George Clooney film and review it. I think not.

Great review, John. Thank you for your fair assessment (especially towards Bane).

Some critics have decided to give a negative review just for fun - you know, the Joker is not there in this film, so it's not a good film - I question the intelligence levels of these people. Can you ever get anything more ridiculous than that?? Some great critics are actually comparing Bane and the Joker!!! Critics who are not Batman fans should not be allowed to review these films. Period. And there some critics who loved the film, but complained about its length. How can that be? I mean, if you love watching the film, shouldn't you be wishing that it could go on for a bit longer? Most of the negative reviews that this film has generated (so far) don't even make sense. I could understand if they thought that a particular scene seemed to drag on for a bit too long (as I personally felt in the case of 'The Dark Knight' with the hostages in the boat), but to say that the film is enjoyable, and then complain about its length is just ridiculous.

Mhmm...Your comment comparing Nolan's Batman trilogy to George Lucas' OST has got me thinking; could the quality of the batman films be comparable to the Star Wars trilogy, except in reverse order? What I mean is, quality wise, does Batman Begins parallel Return of the Jedi, The Dark Knight parallel The Empire Strikes Back, and now The Dark Knight Rises parallel A New Hope? If so, I find it interesting that, for the first time in film history, a film trilogy has increased in quality and public reception with each new film as opposed to the typical trend of decreasing in recognized quality. I'm not making an informed claim (I won't see the new Batman until Thursday), I'm just asking if such a notion is plausible.

I second that. Bane is naturally not as interesting as the joker would be. I have seen critics who have given the movie a bad review just because Bane does not live up to that, which I find to be very sad.

Great review and thank you for being fair about the character of Bane which I feel many won't be fair about. Can't wait to see it.
