  • Behold the first Poster for ‘The Master’!

The marketing for Paul Thomas Anderson's latest is ramping up...

    July 18, 2012

We’re obviously pretty focused on ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ right now at The Awards Circuit (and rightfully so), but it’s getting to be time to focus harder on the fall prestige releases. High atop almost everyone’s lists of anticipated releases is Paul Thomas Anderson’s film ‘The Master’. We’ve only gotten a taste of what’s to come, but now we have a Poster to share with you. You can see the full Poster after the jump, and it’s pretty unique if I do say so myself. I’m a fan, and expect to like the rest of the material to come as well. Take a gander below and stay tuned for lots more on ‘The Master’ in the coming months…

The Emmys, even more so than the Oscars, are strangely predictable; once the TV Academy likes a show or actor they continue to nominate them over and over. It’s the reason Mad Men, Modern Family and 30 Rock will be in contention again, and why Mariska Hargitay will never be far from the Emmy spotlight. What then to make of upstarts like HomelandDownton Abbey, Girls, Revenge, and New Girl? Or overlooked shows like Community? The acting races seem even tighter than usual, especially in the comedy categories with shows like Happy Endings and Parks and Recreation trying to break through in the crowded supporting categories.  It’ll be interesting to see what shows and which actors land nominations tomorrow, so without further ado here are my predictions!

‘Stoker’ is officially a 2013 release

Cross this one off of your contender list...for a year, at least

    July 18, 2012

Once thought to be a possible Oscar contender this year, Chan-wook Park’s English language debut ‘Stoker’ is now going to have to be a player next year, if it’s to be a player at all. Box Office Mojo is now listing it here as a 2013 release, and an early year release at that…coming out in March (the 1st, to be exact). Does this mean it’s not really a contender? Time will tell, and after the jump you can get refresher on just what the film is about. In any event, I’m definitely looking forward to this one. Check out more on ‘Stoker’ below…

Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’ gets a November release date!

Honest Abe won't be hunting vampires, but he will be hunting Oscars...

    July 18, 2012

I don’t think anyone assumed that ‘Lincoln’ wasn’t going to be coming out this year, but it was one of the biggest films of the year without a solid release date. That’s history now folks, and it looks like we’ll be able to see it a little earlier than expected. The Wrap is reporting here that Steven Spielberg’s long gestating passion project will be hitting theaters on November 9th (though it’ll be fully released a week later on the 16th), opting to open right after the Presidential election. After the jump you can see what its primary competition will be in early November, but suffice to say it’s going to do well. Check out more on ‘Lincoln’ and the films coming out along with it below…

    The Dark Knight Rises (***½)

It's time for OSCAR to recognize Batman....

    July 18, 2012

    Editor’s Review

“Ladies and gentlemen, we have a contender…”

Those were my exact thoughts and tweet after the screening of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.  A little over twelve hours have passed, allowing what was seen to officially settle in.  The Dark Knight Rises, dare I say it, is better than its predecessor.  With all my qualms and things that I found wrong in The Dark Knight (2008), Nolan goes back, corrects, and elevates everything in the superhero genre, frame by frame.  If there were ever doubts about Christopher Nolan and his ability as a filmmaker, he puts all things to rest and declares himself one of the most innovative and visionary directors working today.  He analyzes and interprets Batman in a way, I’ve never known possible.  Nolan wants to make more than a “Batman” film or just another “superhero” movie.  He reinvented the genre and quite possibly creates the best superhero film of all-time.

Ah yes…the writers behind Batman. Before you doze off to sleep, I implore you all to think about just how significant these unsung heroes have been, not only in the creation of the Caped Crusader himself (Bob Kane) but also by their ability to sustain him as an internationally renowned fictional hero for nearly 75 years. In 1939, the Great Depression was coming to an end, a new World War was beginning its wave of global horror, and one man created a character that could rise the downtrodden spirit of America, lifting them up to escapist heights that every melancholic soul desperately yearned for. A 24-year old man had no clue that he’d just unleashed a beast onto society, one that would ravage their eyes as they rapidly scrolled up, down, right, left, and back again, marveling at a man in a bat suit who starred in a popular comic strip, Detective Comics. The instant popularity seemed unreal considering this was a guy in a freaking bat suit, who was starting to become as popular as God himself. But those who actually read the words on the pages knew this comic book detective was no ordinary hero. He was something special, precisely because he wasn’t very extraordinary at all. Kane introduced a man, Bruce Wayne/Batman, who lived the epitome of the American Dream, but didn’t stop there — Batman was a hero who fought for everyone’s “American Dreams,” and for that he was someone worth idolizing well into the next century, and beyond. Below, you will find biographical synopses of some of the most prolific writers of the Batverse, so I hope you all enjoy and learn something you hadn’t already known about these nearly invisible yet omnipresent forces behind our favorite man in black…
