This was a great movie just as ambitious and emotional as TDKR. Thank you Mr. Foote for giving Superman Returns its due. I can't wait for Snyder's Superman (that teaser trailer was pretty fantastic), but I wish this one wasn't so easily forgotten.

Wow, glad to see there are others who enjoy this film. The Kevin Spacey/Gene Hackman Lex Luthor has always been one of my favorite movie villains, thanks largely to his disconcerting combination of humor and maliciousness. My personal favorite scene involves Lois' son playing on the piano with one of Lex's tattooed thugs, a joyfully confusing moment of tender humor and ominous evil.

Could not agree more. I thought Superman Returns was a beautiful film and extremely emotional. I also think the score by John Ottman is an underrated element as well. His music was really deep and sad at times, while using Williams' music for the triumphant battles. I'm not really sure why the movie is so reviled, maybe it's too old-fashioned for modern audiences, maybe Superman himself is outdated. Maybe Superman Returns wasn't dark enough for my cynical, post-9/11 generation. Too bad, it really is spectacular and my second favorite superhero movie ever.
