Hot on the heels of the Toronto International Film Festival announcing their titles comes word from Venice about the films to be featured at the 69th Venice Film Festival. With 60 films, the selection includes a wide range of anticipated titles such as Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder, Passion from Brian De Palma and The Company You Keep directed by Robert Redford, as well as 20 films from female directors. Surprisingly, Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master is not included in the lineup, might this mean it will be skipping the festivals? Check out the full list after the jump! Stanley Kubrick is right up there with Alfred Hitchcock as the director I most admire and if he was alive today, he would be turning 84 this week. Kubrick was born July 26th, 1928, in Manhattan, New York, of Austrian, Romanian, and Polish heritage. At age 13 his father bought him a camera, which subsequently led to a lifelong obsession with still photography, something that distracted him from his studies in school. Between his poor grades and even less stellar attendance record (he would skip classes to attend double-feature films), Kubrick’s family decided to send him to Los Angeles to live with relatives in hopes that he would focus his efforts on his studies. After high school, Kubrick became an apprentice photographer for Look magazine before becoming full-staff. He frequented film screenings while living in Greenwich Village, and became inspired by the fluid camera styles of Max Ophüls and Elia Kazan.

One of the bits that I forgot to share when I wrote up my interviews with the cast and crew of ‘Ruby Sparks’ was that directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris really hoped that the film would help get more people to discover Zoe Kazan, something I’ve championed for a few years now. At least to some degree, they’ve already been successful, as The Playlist is reporting here that Kazan has scored the lead role in ‘The F Word’, a highly regarded script that was once set up at Fox Searchlight with Casey Affleck in one of the main roles and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Deborah Ann Woll, Rose Byrne, and Rebecca Hall duking it out for the other.  It’s finally gotten the green light and will go before the cameras. After the jump you can get the details on the project, but it’s certainly one I’m interested in seeing.

Our first look at the flick is a rather long one...

Up until now, we haven’t really seen too much from the upcoming adaptation of ‘Cloud Atlas’ that the Wachowskis and Tom Twyker have made. We’ve gotten hints and tidbits about how out there and ambitious it is, but nothing to really hang your hat on. That changed today however, as there’s a 5 minute International Trailer for share with you all. It’s certainly much longer than a normal Domestic Trailer and serves a different purpose, but it does work as a great preview for the flick. You can see it after the jump, but do keep in mind that it might actually show you a bit more than you’d prefer to see. If that doesn’t bother you, the Trailer is right here for you below…
