Pulpy, grimy and Southern fried…The Paperboy trailer arrives online!

Remember way back when in May when The Paperboy was setting Cannes ablaze with talk of how it was both a dirty guilty pleasure while others said it was guilty of being bad? The buzz has cooled on the film after that raucous reaction, but today Yahoo! has released the trailer for the much talked about film. It looks just as grimy and pulpy as people described (even without footage of the seedier elements) but the characters, especially John Cusack and Nicole Kidman really shine in the two minute clip. Give it a look after the jump!

I can’t help but admit being strangely drawn to this seedy, Southern-based crime drama. Daniels impressed me with Precious, so I’m at the very least curious to see how he has grown as a filmmaker since then. The cast doesn’t do anything to make me want to see it less, esp. Cusack and Kidman (looking her best in a decade).

It is indeed gritty and sweaty. I love Nicole getting dirty and losing the whispers in favour of that deep drawl!

Looks terrific — the man did not falter with Precious (2009) did he? And Kidman, in the right role, can be astounding. Can’t wait for this one.

I can’t say this one looks very good to me, but we’ll see…
