An interesting little bit of information has been uncovered in regard to Terrence Malick’s latest film. Over at the website for the Venice Film Festival (found here), there’s a running time listed for all of the films at the fest, including ‘To The Wonder’, and believe it or not, it’s going to be the director’s shortest film in some time. It’s a (by his standards) lean 112 minutes long, and after the jump you can see how long a Malick flick usually runs, but I’ll give you a hint…longer than this one. In fact, it’s the shortest since he first got started in the business. Read on for the actually times below…
Malick actually made his debut with a shorter length films, as both ‘Badlands’ and ‘Days of Heaven’ were only 94 minutes long. It was only after his hiatus that he started upping the running times. ‘The Thin Red Line’ was nearly 3 hours at 170 minutes long, ‘The New World’ has 3 different cuts ranging from 135 minutes to 172 minutes long, and of course last year ‘The Tree of Life’ came in at 139 minutes long. Suffice to say, ‘To The Wonder’ will be significantly shorter…

Makes sense, given the subject matter. To the Wonder sounds like a film of substantially smaller scope than his last three films – which isn’t a bad thing, of course.

Hopefully there’s less voice-over as well.

UBourgeois- Agreed, my favorite of his is still Badlands, and the only one I’ve truly been able to embrace so far.

I wonder if Rachel McAdams could be an Oscar contender?

Best Actress looks a little on the weak side, so she’s definitely a contender…
