A couple of months ago the rumor mill was filled to the brim with who Alexander Payne was looking to cast in his next film ‘Nebraska’. Lots of names were floated, mostly A-list elder statesmen and up and coming younger actors (comparatively at least), though apparently Payne had settled in on a more unique teaming of Bruce Dern and Will Forte. Nothing was set in stone, though now The Playlist is reporting here that the film has gotten a green light and Dern/Forte are set to officially star. After the jump you can see a quick refresher on what the movie will be about, but I’m definitely intrigued by this one, as I am by any project the filmmaker gets his hands on. Do we have an upcoming Oscar contender on our hands? Time will tell, but read on below for more on the flick…
The rather short summary from the article says it’s a:
…$13 million black and white film about an aging, booze-addled father who makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million dollar Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes prize.

There were other pairings that got me more excited, but I certainly trust Payne…

I’ve long been a fan of his, but his last film was certainly a great one…

Bruce Dern was one of the greatest actors of the seventies, and should have wn Academy Awaards fir Best Actor for his terrorist in the thriller Black Sunday (1977) and for Supporting Actor a year later for Coming Home (1978) — he was superb as Tom in The Great Gatsby (1974) and maniacal as the crazy cowboy who kills John Wayne in The Cowboys (1972) — I loved his work as an actor and was thrilled to see him on an HBO series not long ago — he has never been given the credit he is due as an actor, he’s incredible.
Payne casting him is great news, this could be his About Schmidt (2002) and maybe finally an Oscar????
