The staff and I discuss several topics this week but focus a bit on the theater going experience that often gets overlooked. The best part about going to the movies is embracing the traditions each of us have on the occasion. We talk about it all.- Oscar Talk: Screenplays and Director
- Trailer Talk: The Impossible, Passion, Ten Years
- Did You Know? w/ Mark Johnson
- Indiana Jones Coming to Imax
- Around the Room
- Old Cinema Talk: Favorite summer movie experience and traditions

Something that works in the favor of Malick or Haneke is that only the Directors Branch has control over the selection of the nominees, hence why you often get the “lone director.” I think those are two names that could very well be in the mix, as well as some other esoteric names.
The reason why I think “Lincoln” will be a better recipient of Oscar praise than “War Horse” is because people actually want to see the former. “War Horse” was something Spielberg did in his downtime while on post-production on Tintin that was quickly shot, while “Lincoln” has been in the conversation for many years and is being anticipated to be seen.

It’s so strange to be picking a movie that we haven’t even seen a trailer for yet, especially this late in the year. But until I see otherwise, I don’t see anything else that screams Oscar quite like Lincoln does (on paper, at least).
