Marion Cotillard’s Oscar year was NOT a weak Best Actress field. Cate Blanchett, Ellen Page, Julie Christie, Laura Linney…..an outstanding lineup in my books.

Not a weak year, but everyone anticipated it was Julie Christie’s Oscar to lose. See her reaction when Cotillard wins…Even she believed it to be so…

If “Compliance” is a difficult watch, then it might as well be dead in the water. That same factor played against Fassbender and Swinton for their films last year, which is the only way to explain snubbing two of the best performances from that year.
I know he had a documentary before his first feature film, but I was very impressed with what Bennett Miller did with “Capote”. I absolutely love that movie, and I also enjoyed what he followed up on with “Moneyball”.

I enjoyed listening, like always. As for my question about directing debuts, the ones I named were my personal choices. If I had to pick one, I choose Ben Affleck.

I think you underestimate a lot Marion Cotillard. She is the biggest European actress actress, praised by directors like Allen, Nolan, Mann or even James Gray who said last week “Marion is the best actor i’ve worked with”. And what we can say about Gray is that he worked with amazing actors! She will certainly be nominated but i think if she doesn’t win this year it’s gonna be next year for Gray’s “Nightingale”. But i just scare if she didn’t win for “Rust and Bone”, she will also loose again against Jane fonda or Nicole Kidman in “Grace of Monaco”! When is she gonna be recognized? I think she should have been nominated for “Nine” and “Inception”! She also should have been nominated for a supporting role in “Public Enemy”.
