Affleck wasn't a total waste. He probably brought the financing with him. I'll be looking forward to this, but I'm not expecting more ToL or TRL stuff. Oh well, can't always make a great one.

We disagree my friend -- if I was alone in my opinion I would give the film a second chance, but I am not -- sorry, but I hated the film....Affleck was totally wasted.

As seemingly one of the few Malick fans left in the world, I think your review of To the Wonder is a little reactionary (how can it not be at film festivals?). The stunning images and voiceovers tell more about the characters than simple conversations could. Complaints such as "why don't these people talk to each other" or "do they ever do anything" are somewhat true but not applicable. Malick's movies aren't meant to make sense temporally or logically. They are expressions of the mind and (from what I've read about To the Wonder) the heart, most importantly.

As far as "Malick doesn't remember movies should be shared with an audience", I would argue he shares more of himself than any director working today. He puts more of his naked ideas and emotions on the screen for us, the viewer, than any director I have ever seen. That's why he is revered, and will continue to be for many, many years.

What a total flop, thanks for the review! I'm not really a Malick fan, and the excitement of gorgeous photography eventually dies down within the first hour.
