  • Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the Trailer for ‘Smashed’

The addiction drama could be a dark horse Oscar contender...

    September 12, 2012

For a few months now, I’ve been betting on the Best Actress race being shaken up a bit by the surprise inclusion of Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the category. She stars in the drama ‘Smashed’, which was a hit at Sundance and is coming out next month in prime awards season. Today we have the Trailer to show you, and Winstead certainly looks like a standout performer. Will that be enough to get a nomination? Time will tell there, but I think she’s definitely in play. After the jump you can see for yourself, and stay tuned for much more on this flick. Behold our first look at ‘Smashed’ below…

    About Joey Magidson

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 200 and 300 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Internet Film Critics Association as well. Today the IFCA, tomorrow the world!

    2. I think the movie is too small to get noticed by the Academy. It’s going to be a battle between Winstead and someone like Emily Blunt for Your Sister’s Sister. I’m hoping for some Independant Spirit Award love for her at least. She’s been extremely consistant in her career choices.
