DDL does look excellent, especially in the little moments that I was afraid the film might neglect–like him distractedly playing with his watch, or watching his son play with toy soldiers. The cast as a whole looks good, and the production can’t be faulted. I’m still a bit on the fence about the script–which admittedly one can get little sense of from a trailer–but I’m decently reassured for this one.

That said, John Williams needs to call it a day. Hopefully the actual score has a little more fire to it; this is nothing he hasn’t written a dozen times before. Hopefully they won’t give it a nomination–but they probably will.

After watching it I was reminded of last year’s War Horse trailer and I was sort of under impressed… I guess we’ll see how the movie turns out.

I think the trailer was alright, kind of wanted it to really focus on Lincoln and the rivals more but it’ll do. DDL looked pretty good though.

However, the cinematography was kind of bland and that John Williams score -_-

It looks interesting. DDL is definitely going to get nominated (we even knew that sight unseen), but whether or not he manages a win remains to be seen. Can’t help but think we might have an “Iron Lady” situation again, where the performance just becomes too undeniable for the Academy members. Suffice it to say, I’m still very interested in seeing it, and I hope it pays off.

And perhaps they went with Jones in the trailer to keep up the “Academy Award Winner” theme of the first two. Of the incredibly dense cast, he’s the only other one with a statue.

It is certainly a fast ball right down the plate for the Academy. Curious to see how the JGL storyline ties in.
