@Steve, I don't think that that was what Clayton meant. The HFPA has always, always been iffy with their winners and nominations. And I literally mean always. The "Tourist" incident was not the first time. And by the way Alice in Wonderland is a multiple Oscar winner film. So one would assume that their support even if unnecessary was foreshadowing to the Academy's own opinions.

Anyways, I completely agree Clayton. Even though the Golden Globes was sort of viewed has this huge precursor, I actually think in recent years that have tried really hard to distance themselves as much as possible from the Oscars. The have awarded movies like Atonement, Avatar and The Social Network, BP over No Country, The Hurt Locker, and The King's Speech. But again, it is interesting to see what this will do to the actuality of the race. And the most important question is what are they going to brand themselves as?

I don't think the Golden Globes mattered that much to begin with. The HFPA proved that with nominating garbage like Alice in Wonderland and The Tourist by saying they cared more about getting the stars to show up rathering than awarding by performance/merit.

Maybe I am overreaching here, but this seems like a huge shiv in the side to the HFPA and the Golden Globes. Sure, their nominations will be out and perhaps retain some influence, but the Oscar nods prior to their ceremony essentially renders the Globes' movie awards much less influential and important it seems.

Still mulling over that extended voting time as well...
