A day after Fox Searchlight announced that Hitchcock would be released, Focus Features comes back to show us which late entry they entered into the race with Gus Van Sant’s Promised Land.  The trailer has dropped today and showcases Matt Damon in a role that may or may not bring some awards attention.  The jury is still out on its Oscar chances.  I’d place it on the medium scale of must-sees this year but I’ve been know to be wrong before.

Check out the full trailer and poster after the jump.

    1. This looks like a better release for a Festival or early year release…I am confused as to why they are rushing this to the end of the year just to get into award contention when it looks this tame.

    2. Is it just me, or does the trailer remind anyone of “Salmon Fishing In The Yemen” except in America? Damon even says something along the lines of “we’re not fighting for land…we’re fighting for people.” That’s a good film by the way, but nowhere near an Oscar player. I dunno…Gus Van Sant is beloved by the Academy, but dare I say from the outset this looks to a lighthearted effort compared to his far more dramatic works that everyone knows and reveres. Hal Holbrook though…man…with one look he can burst you into tears. If anyone is getting nominated from the cast, it’ll probably be him.

    3. It’s definitely got an awards bait type vibe. I’d like to see more though…

    4. It reminds me of Lincoln in the sense that Im sure it’ll be good but the trailer makes it look so generic and by the numbers.
