I’m reminded heavily of The Black Stallion (a great film that deserves to be better remembered)–the shipwreck scenes in particular seem very close to that film indeed.

It just seems, from the trailer at least, that this is a lushly made film without a firm core. I could be wrong (I should note I’ve never read the book), but I’m definitely anxious to see what the reviews will be like.
