We’re flying off the cuff this week discussing the race in general. Agenda is listed below.
- We talk about the New York Film Festival screening of “Life of Pi” with Ang Lee in attendance. Our qualms with the film and if it’s a Best Picture nominee by the end of the year.
- We attempt to foresee a 5% lovefest for Juan Antonio Bayona’s “The Impossible.” Does it have the substance to be a nominee? Is Naomi Watts the Best Actress winner?
- Emmy Reactions – What were the biggest surprises of the ceremony?
- The Oscar Race – Referring to Sasha Stone’s recent “Ten Commandments” of Oscar Prognosticating, we break Commandment 1 in Minute 1 of the discussion.
- Wishes for the Oscar Season – What do we want to see as the season is officially in tow?
- Do we see the 10th time that the Best Picture and Best Director winners are different?
- The Veterans Going for their Due – Richard in “Arbitrage” or John Goodman in “Argo?” Is it either of them?
- Kristen Stewart – Is she more of a threat then we realize? Could she surprise enough with much of Hollywood coming to bat for her?
- And much more…
As always, comment and discuss!

I’ve dropped The Hobbit down to #9. But I’m not letting go just yet. I can’t bet against it until I’ve seen it.
As far as animated, I’m surprised none of you mentioned Rise of the Guardians as a possible nominee/favorite to win. Guardians is going to win the Hollywood Animation Award on Oct 22nd. The last five winners of this award have won the Oscar for Animated Feature. In a race this tight, I’d say that is enough to consider it the favorite for now.

I forgot to mention “Rise of the Guardians.”
Though it won the Hollywood Film Awards, it does look rather cheap. Not sure how good it will be or how critics will respond to it.

I doubt Kristen Stewart is a threat and has a chance for a nomination. She’s been getting a lot of mixed reviews for her role in On The Road and last time I checked, reviews really matter, right? The one getting the most praise is Garrett Hedlund but unfortunately the best actor is packed.

I wasn’t going to comment but I found your Kristen Stewart discussion very interesting, including your thoughts on the whole cheating debacle.I get what you are saying that she has a lot of experience but is On The Road the role she has a chance at being nominated for? I doubt it. From what I’ve been reading online, Stewart is awkard and fidgets in the role. It’s nothing but a sex object character she plays. Will the Academy really go for that? I don’t think box office or experience matters or else Jennifer Lawrence would have never been nominated in the first place.

I can’t decide whether Amy Adams or Anne Hathaway have a chance at winning. Also I think The Hobbit isn’t going to nominated at all.

The word on Richard Gere really does sound like what happened last year with Demian Bichir. If they can get enough screeners out to people and build up the word-of-mouth, as well as sell his Oscar-less status, I could definitely see a nomination for him happening.
I know it’s too early to tell, but the word on “Frankenweenie” seems to be exceedingly positive. I’ve seen so many people start predicting it for the winner. I would personally love to see Burton with an Oscar, especially for a film that turns out to actually be good. Granted, anything can happen, but it does seem like it’s a flat out contender.

It’s Sally Field’s comeback. At a recent screening in Hollywood with Academy members mixed in, the buzz was high on Sally. As for Gere, he and the film are OVERRATED. After summer dreck, it was the first Fall film and critics (not all) needed something to praise. As for Kristen Stewart, SKANK. Why are we talking about her.

I don’t think Kristen Stewart stands a chance because of On the Road itself. However, she played her Marylou very well, gave the movie the energy and the chemistry with both Garret and Riley was really strong. I loved her energetic dancing scene with Garret but I also like the quiet ones.

I hope that this “nominated” for Kristen Stewart is a joke. Srsly, she can’t even play, she’s the worst actress in fifteen years. Come on…
