As with any category that has a long list we can sort of pour over and analyze, the Best Foreign Language Feature category at the Oscars is an interesting one to try and predict. We seemingly get more help than in other categories, but rarely are our predictions ever that accurate. It never ceases to fascinate me. Anyway, this year looks to have a record 68 film fighting it out for those 5 slots, and after the jump you can exactly which ones each country has submitted for consideration. I’m not quite certain which nominees will wind up as the 5, but things like Amour, Barbara, Beyond the Hills, Bwakaw, Caesar Must Die, Fill The Void, The Intouchables, No, and A Royal Affair are in decently good spots now…

Amour and The Intouchables are very safe bets for nominees at this point, and Beyond the Hills is another likely choice, but beyond those it could be A Royal Affair, No, Caesar Must Die, or maybe a a wild shot for Bwakaw or Kon-Tiki.

Amour and Les Intouchables are safe bet, but don’t forget the strong Canadian presence in this category for two years now with AMAZING Incendies and Monsieur Lazhar… War Witch is just as strong contender with a impeccable central performance who won at Berlin and Tribeca

I hope Bwakaw gets the nomination.
I watched the movie at a special screening organized by the University of the Philippines Film Institute yesterday and I now understood all the attention it’s getting among foreign film critics.
The story is really moving and it shows the small but touching details of the reality of life most often overlooked by most people – the sadness of living alone with no family and regrets while growing old among a few.
